The Cover
The cover captures the civilizations that influenced Sudan. One of the pyramids of the Kushite rulers of Meroe, the Southern Capital of the Napta / Meroitic Kingdom (800BC-350AD) is shown in the background [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mero%C3%AB]. Also shown is the Meroitic script, the indigenous alphabet consisting of 23 letters, which has been developed in the Naptan Period at about 700-300BC. The Arabic script of the “Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics” reflects the main language and culture following the migratory waves from the Arabian Peninsula to Sudan in the 12th century. The script was designed in 1984 at the Sudan University College of Fine Arts by Taha El Atta, PhD.

The Cover reflects part of Sudan civilization and shows scripts of the Meroitic Kingdom (800BC-350AD) which spread along the Nile Valley for a distance of more than 1000 km [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mero%C3%AB]. The Arabic script of the “Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics” reflects also the current main culture of Sudan. It was designed in 1984 at the Sudan University College of Fine Arts by Taha El Atta, PhD. A happy Sudanese baby is also shown reaching out, a gesture of a healthy future development.
