About the Cover
The Cover of the Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics (SJP) displays Sudan civilizations and shows scripts of the Meroitic Kingdom (800BC-350AD) which spread along the Nile Valley for a distance of more than 1000 km [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meroë]. The Arabic script of the “Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics” reflects the main language and culture following the migratory waves from the Arabian Peninsula to Sudan in the 12th century. It was designed in 1984 at the Sudan University College of Fine Arts by Taha El Atta, PhD.
The crawling child is Nazik El Malaika adopting a frizzed-out hairstyle, reminiscent of the “Fuzzy-Wuzzy” hairstyle (http://allpoetry.com/Fuzzy-Wuzzy). Together with her father Prof. Haydar El Hadi Babikir, Consultant Pediatrician/Pediatric Neurologist and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Gezira (U of G)

Her parents, having poetic and artistic inclinations, named her after Nazik Al-Malaika who is considered to be one of the most influential contemporary Arab female poets [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazik_Al-Malaika]. Dr Nazik El Malaika had her basic schooling in Port Sudan and Wad Medani, and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, U of G. She currently works as Registrar in Medicine in Wad Medani preparing for Clinical MD degree.
