About the Cover, Volume 17, Issue 2
Scripts of the Meroitic Kingdom (800 BC-350 AD), reflecting the old civilization of Sudan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mero%C3%AB), are shown in the background of the Cover. Meroë (located approximately 600 km north-east of Khartoum) was the southern capital of the Meroitic Kingdom. At its peak, the Meroitic Kingdom expanded along the Nile Valley north to south, over a straight-line distance of more than 1,000 km and had international trade involving China and India. The Arabic script of the “Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics” represents the current main culture of Sudan. The script was designed by Taha El Atta, PhD in 1984 at the Sudan University of Science and Technology, College of Fine and Applied Arts.
