The Cover
Scripts of the Meroitic Kingdom (800 BC-350 AD) are shown in the Cover of the Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics (SJP) reflecting the old civilization of Sudan [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meroe]. Meroë (located approximately 600 km north-east of Khartoum) was the southern capital of the Kingdom of Kush during Classical Antiquity era (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Kush). The maximum extent of Kush in 700 BC included Egypt and Syria. The current main culture of Sudan is represented by the Arabic script of the “Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics”. The script was designed by Taha El Atta, PhD in 1984 at the Sudan University, College of Fine Arts.
Fayrouz Mohammed Abdalla is shown celebrating her first birthday. Dr Fayrouz (MBBS, MSc [Leeds], MD) is currently Assistant Professor of Community Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Ahfad University for Women. She was born in Wad Medani of Gezira State, moving with her father who was a Medical Officer and later Ophthalmologist at the Sudan Ministry of Health, and had her basic education in Nyala of South Darfur State and Sennar of Sennar State. She has contributed a Review Article to SJP (Sudan J Paediatr 2011;11(1): 8-19).
